as one can expect. Some great movies like Umrao Jaan( portrayed by Rekha)
even heighten our social consciousness. Instead of contributing to women's
dehumanization, they encourage us to celebrate the beautiful artistry
connected with the genre while deepening our compassionate instincts toward
the performers. I hope the tradition continues on the silver screen.

My Urdu professor discussed the lyrics of this movie in 1963. It has been 48 years I saw this movie, it has haunted me ever since. What surprises me there is no information about Nakhshab.What is even more surprising that he could not bring the magic back. Nakhshab you will not be forgotten. Zindagi ya Toofan is forever.

This actually is a ghazal by Nizam Rapuri (1819-1898). Listen carefully to
know the name of Janab Nizam Rampuri in the last sher. besakhta nigahe jo
aapas mein mil gayi kya munh par usne rakh liye aankhen chura ke haath yeh
bhi naya sitam hai, heena to lagaye gair aur daad uski chahen vo, mujhko
dikha kar haath kuuche se tere uththen to phir jaaen hum kahan baithe hai
yaan to donon, jahn se uthake haath dena wo usko saghar-e-may yaad hai
'Nizaam' muhn pher kar udhar ko, idhar ko badha ke haath
