years ago and still fresh and haunting. Surendraji was the most handsome
actor singer of the times. The song reflects facts of life when he states
that all decoration of this body are of no use as body would soon turn into
ashes.he says it is only Gods name that would give salvation from the world
and rebirths. What a philosophy!Yet all of us are running after worldly
pleasures and taken over by passions.

Thanks for remembering Surendraji. He was not only handsome but a real
gentleman to the core. He used to very proudly introduce me (he was my
Tayaji)to his friends, as a soldier (I was a young Capt). I have heard his
ssongs in persons many a times. He was a very simple man & I have had the
privilege of staying with him many times. When he expired I was in Toronto
& the local FM (Hindi) station plaayed his songs for one hour. Thanks once
again for reviving fond memories.

When I was in Assam areas while in service many years ago in 1982 I used to
have an army friend a major who stated that one of his colleague an army
officer was married to a daughter of Surendraji. You may like to say some
thing. I left service 24 years ago. Colonel Rao ( retired)

recently updated, is married to an actor Aarti Gupta, d/o Maj Gyan Gupta.
Both R also P3 regulars. His eldest daughter is also married to one actr
Mahendra Sandhu, Old Agent Vinod movie, Elder son Jeet, also an ad man,

accomplished & best selling painter is married to actor Mahendra Sandhu,
one time possible projected second fiddle to Dharmendra (a very handsome
Jat from Mahendra College Patiala) & now a very successful realtor.
Youngest daughter Rohini is married to one Admiral's son, . CD of his
songs, being compiled by his eldest son Jeet (he was on Filmfare cover
years back, an almuni of Film Institute, Pune)would be uploaded.

This song in Gujarati is VERY VERY popular. The stories of Raja Bharathri
and his bhatija Raja Gopichand are immortal in Gujarat, Bhojpur and
Rajasthan. There was a 1973 film Raja Bharathari starring Upendra Trivedi
and Snehlata - this song was sung in Gujarati by Mahendra Kapoor and Suman
Kalyanpur. Infact the legend goes that Raja Bharthari and Raja Gopichand
drank the "amar-pyaalo" - the potion that brought them immortality..even
after 400 to 500 years later they are living in either the Himalayas, Gir
or maybe the Vindhyachal mountains.. they have attained immortality.

more you hear the song Biksha de de Amiya... From. Bhartruhari , more you
want to hear. it is so devotional and tells us facts of this life. more
over Surendraji has put life into the song by his golden voice?No singer
from Hindi cinema ventured to sing this song later as Surendraji was
supreme and nothing better could be done by any one? one goes into trance
listening to him and ammeter bai with her shrill voice.this one song is
enough to make Surendraji as a legend and immortal? He has not sung silly
songs in his career like other singers sang shouting shrieking, yelling
etc. thus Surendraji is special by himself.

who was gopichand, please tell us more about Gopichand. This is a
remarkable song. I HAVE ONLY HEARD from my father, that the English had put
a ban on this song because it raised people to the point of taking diksha.
