It is correct that Kundan Lal Saigal's house was opp. Prithviraj Raj
Kapoor's house in R.P. Masani lane, near King's Circle. Saigal could be
heard in the lane singing late in to the night. He drank a lot, and as he
drank his voice would become mellower and mellower. I was only 3 years old
when he died, so I have no memory, but my dad, who loved this song and we
have the original 78 rpm record, told me that a large funeral procession
passed by our house in Matunga. On one of the trucks with Saigal's body was
also a record player with an amplifier and they played all his greatest
hits and the funeral cortege passed along right up to the crematorium.
Thousands came out of their houses to pay their tributes. A very great
singer unfortunately killed by alcohol.

As we say in Trinidad - this is the greatest indian love song ever.
