Theme continues: Raj Kapoor-Mukesh without Shankar Jaikishan. This
fast-paced comic song is from Sharada (1957), a bold Meena Kumar-Ra Kapoor
movie. Because of circumstances she ends up marrying his widower father!
Excellent work by Meena Kumari, but the music by C Ramchandra lets down,
considering his Anarkali peak. Mukesh's only song in the movie, not the
best, or the most recalled . In a year where Mother India swept all awards,
Sharada got buried in the sands of time.

It means start living (Basana=to stay, to construct eg. ghar basana, sheher
basana and basi= one who is staying) in Prem nagar. So prem nagar ka basi
hoja means love somebody. The same meaning is repeated in the next line but
in different words.

I think the correct word is vasna or vasi banja. In India V is turned in to
B ie Visvajeet-Biswajeet, so vasi became basi. Vasna became Basna etc.
Further to this you will notice Y turned into J.
Y,YAMUNA-JAMUNA,YAJMAN-JAJMAN,YADA-JADAV etc.. In Bengal they use O in many
words JAY-JOY, KAJAL-KAJOL etc. In Tamil T BECOMES TH. Lata-Latha,Geeta-
Geetha, Vijyanti-Vijyanthi. I hope you will like my observations. Thanks.

You are right. The original Sanskrit verb is Vas = To live in some place/
To be in some place. From it, Vasti is derived which in some languages
becomes Basti=Place to in.So prem nagar ka basi hoja means start living in
prem nagar ie love somebody. Thanx.

perhaps this is the only song given by C Ramachandra to Mukesh, C
Ramchandra was not much in love with Mukesh's voice. In the moview SARGAM ,
Raj Kapoor was the main actor and C Ramchandra did not use Mukesh for
playback, nontheless All time great artists,,,Mukesh, C Ramchandra..thanks

The correct film name is SHAARDA. We tend to spell HINDI words wrongly in
