There were strong reports that they were a couple and had become intimate
with each other. Then eventually Madhuri moved on because it no longer
suited her career. But I don't feel bad for Sanjay.

This makes sense to me. Sanjay was a notorious playboy in his younger days.
There is no way he would have let a much coveted and desired "delicacy"
like Madhuri go without making use of her body. At the same time, Madhuri
being such a professional who put her career above everything else, would
have agreed to this.
