shikra means kaan or hunterbird or eagle or hawk but here shikra use 4
boyfriend tikheri means sharp or tikhi maikan da tirhaya means thirsty 4
meet her or desire nainan de koye means eyeboll navaya means bathing vatani
means her homeland

shiv kumar batalvi was archer in a poetry.he used everyword as a arrow nd
he target everyone's heart with his arrows. so u can say he was Arjuna in a
poetry.

Thanks for the beautiful translation. I have been listening to this song
for quiet some time and enjoying it but did not know the meaning. Now I
know it thanks to you.
satinder sharma on January 02, 2010
shikra is hawk .but small in size.
iLoveYoutubing on February 18, 2010
@1653291968 There is a difference between TIRhayra (dipped) and TARhaya
(thirsity)
iLoveYoutubing on February 19, 2010
@1653291968 Punjabi is quite deep language and you can not master it in
full .. as there are diff ways of saying the same stuff and some words are
not even proper when used in poetry. Back to tarhaya, its reffered to >>>
like when u pour water in a glass and after being filled.. it over flows...
glass being "taar o taar" I believe shiv meant to say soaked or dipped in
fragrance. Sorrry! its hard to translate punjabi into proper english. It's
my best interpretation which can be wrong. Thanks
grewaljag on February 19, 2010
I think your interpretation is correct!!
junkyfunky1234 on March 11, 2010
"churi kuttan taan au khaunda nahi.. we asan dil da maas khilaaya.. ik
udari aisi maari.." no one feed churi to human hunters.. and human
hunters dont fly.. shikra here means a hawk (which is also a hunter .. just
not human)

@XENAFOXEY shikra can symbolize lot of different things (and you are right
that here it does symbolize a hawk like friend)... but that does not change
the meaning of the word
066zee on April 19, 2010

what does the song mean Can someone translate the lyrics please. :)
I understand he's singing to his mother?
Kamran Niazi on November 20, 2010
@munrith basically he is telling his mother how he fell in love with a hawk
' in this case refers to a girl ' .. and then he tells what he did for this
hawk but in the end he says that hawk took a flight and never returned back
to the country ..
Munrith Longe on November 23, 2010
@lordniazi90 Oh cool. Thank you, So I'm guessing the word "shikra" means
hawk? :D
Kamran Niazi on December 01, 2010
@munrith yes basically shikra means hawk .. but in this poetry it refers to
a girl, so he indirectly tells how he served the hawk, by doing so much for
her, but at the end of the .. 'ik udaari aisi mari, o murr watnii nah aya'
.. he took such a flight that he never came back ..

another legend passes away,, very sad day for Music lover, JAGJEET SINGH
makes us sad,,, after the death of Ustad Sahib NUSRAT FATEH ALI.
Zooni Raina on October 12, 2011
Why Lord why? Why did you do this to us? We Punjabis have suffered so much.
And now you have taken another legend from us. Son of Punjab is gone. Rest
in peace, Jagjitji, he's finally united with his son and daughter.
Bharat Naruka on October 12, 2011
@ZooniIndian With all due respect to your sentiments towards Jagajit Singh
ji, he was born and brought up in a Sikh family in Sri Ganganagar in
Rajasthan. All that apart, he was a philanthropic son of India, not just
Punjab or Rajasthan. God bless his soul.
siddharth gupta on October 12, 2011
@junkyfunky1234 Get A Literate Person to comment on who is talking like a
silly person over silly issues. Just Because u can surf the net and send
SMS dosent make you a critic. Ya I will enjoy the song regardless your
comment. If you are afraid of arguments u should not post comments TC
Zooni Raina on October 12, 2011
@bharatnaruka Dear Bharat, I know he was born in Rajasthan, but his family
is a native of Dalla village of Punjab. Jagjit Singh has been a proud
Punjabi all his life. Why can't we say we are proud to be Punjabis, when
Gujratis, Marathis, Bengalis, Tamils have all the right to do so. Because
this is a Punjabi song, that is why I mentioned his punjabiness.
Bharat Naruka on October 12, 2011
@ZooniIndian No worries. Nothing wrong in being proud of where one belongs.
