Grieved deeply over the death of Nizamuddin Auliya of Delhi, Amir Khusro
who was his spiritual disciple, and renowned for his excellence in poetry
and music, wrote a lamenting piece of poetry with painful heart & tearful
eyes. Fascinated by the the poignancy of this poetry, Naushad asked Shakeel
to write lyrics, keeping the same passionate spirit, in Urdu/Hindi for
