Lyrics By: शैलेन्द्र

Vinay Hegde on April 27, 2015 Such a fun song, it played a very important role in taking the story of

R Nanjappa on May 16, 2015 This is no doubt one of the best ever songs and wonderful dance sequences
in the Hindi films. . But this tune is indeed based on the nursery rhyme
'If you are happy and know it, clap your hands', as Srinivasan Channiga has
pointed out. Somebody has used foul language to criticise him- this is
unfortunate. One can listen to the various versions of the old rhyme and
decide for oneself. Why use foul language- when we do not agree? Most of
our old music directors lifted foreign tunes and gave it desi colour.: SJ,
Hemant Kumar, Salil Choudury, Madan Mohan, C.R, have all done that. Many of
our old hits are based on such borrowed tunes. Even the famous 'Ghar aaya'
song composed by Shankar Jaikishan in Awara was based on an Arab tune. But
our old MDs were quite talented and made subtle changes and improvements on
their own. We can still enjoy the song. What if it is a borrowed tune? Do
we not listen to version songs, which are at times better than the
originals? Besides, many tunes are derived from the same raga- eg. Rasik
balma and chand phir nikla; thandi hawayen lehrake aayen and Rahe na rahe
hum; Hundreds of such examples can be given. Let us enjoy the good stuff,
whatever its origin.
