This film is SHARDA. By a tragic twist of fate Raj's lover Meena becomes
his step mother and hence a tragic story. Another film Pyaar ka sagar had
same MEENA KUMARI become Rajendra Kumar,s Bhabhi in similar manner.

No , Meena kumari did not commit suicide! She died of Cirrhosis of the
liver ( caused by excessive drinking, of harsh bad liquor , over years) !
Her husband Kamlaal Amrohi refused to pay her r medical expenses; the
hopsital refused to release her body for the proper funeral rites., Nargis
stepped in to help. THEN Kamal relented and paid the bills. What a tragic
end as a penniless person, one of the best stars India made ! Kamal made
millions out of her especially with "Pakeeza"!

To the best of my knowledge, she spent her last days at Mehmood's (who was
her brother in law) residence in Andheri Her divorce actually crated a huge
gap of years between the start and the completion of Pakeezah Her reported
fling with Dharmendra (around the time Purnima was made) did not make it
easier for her either- she had well and truly hit the bottle by then

My brother once traveled with Meena kumari during her last days. She was
very friendly and said frankly " Pehley main sharaab peetithi. Ab Sharaab
mujhe peeta hai !" ( Earlier on i was drinking liquor; now liquor is
drinking me !)

What U say is true. She died in hospital next to my mother's house at
Wlakeshwar in Mumbai. Friends from film industry came to help and paid the
bills. I have written in my Info. on my song''Pia aiso jia mei samaye gayo

As far back as when I was 8 years old I have adored Meena Kumari To this date my vigilant affection for her is unalloyed. I have a most detailed scrapbook on her, including a signed photgraph she sent to my brother. That is the center piece of my living room. When I read of her sad end, my heart just gapes open with sadness and I just block it out of my mind. I have written a poem about her but it is too lengthy to post here.
