I think I should inform Touseef Khaleel bhai that Roop Kumar Rathod is not
where he is today because of A.R.Rahman...He was a tabla player in great
demand before he plunged into singing full time from 1984. He started as a
ghazal singer and continues to be one today after 3 decades. In between
all this; he took on whatever film song assignments that he was offered and
the rest is history. Yes, the fact remains that it was J.P.Dutta's
'Border' that catapulted his singing career to fame with that ever green
song 'Sandese aate hain, hamein tadpate hain'.and subsequently it was
the national anthem of 1996 'Maula mere maula' which still is a huge hit
even today. And let's not forget the title song of S R K's Rab ne bana di
jodi that has got him where he is today not forgetting 'To chaloon' from
'Border' and that famous song from 'Sarfarosh'.You can attribute
the success earned by some of his contemporaries to A.R.Rahman...
