here were quite a few movie makers who made movies on this theme. Manoj
Kumar was the most notable and his “Upkaar” was very much a “Jai Jawaan Jai
Kissan kind of movie, and its song “mere desh ki dharti sona ugle” was very
much a song of this genre.
The song “Mere des me pawan chale purwaayi” from “Jigri Dost” appears to
have been inspired from the “Upkaar” song. The lyrics are similar, and the
picturistion also seems to be so, except that Manoj “Bharat ” Kumar is
replced by Jeetendra “Jumping jack” here.
And this song, sung by Rafi is written by Anand Bakshi and the music is b
Laxmikant Pyarelal. It is quite a feel good song by the standards of 1960s,
and one that can cheer the listeners even today.
