Shankar Jekishan in an interview mentioed that Mukesh would sing slow songs easily while he would mostly be out of surr in even moderately higher pithces, and he had to have so many retakes to bring him to surr, but the final outcome of the recording was awsome. Mukesh had a different voice which helped him get the fame, while Rak Kapoor preferring him for the songs also helped him a lot, otherwise he had always been a mediocre singer, his voice had not much range and modulations like Rafi Sahab
