The lyrics to this song are more inspiring and make more sense than the current national anthem. Perhaps the best of the stanzas can be picked to get a sufficiently short anthem. At least this song was not written to welcome British King George like many claim the current one was.

Our National Anthem 'Jana Gana Mana' was written keeping God as our Saviour in mind and was invoking him. It was only presented to the King of England by a British Diplomat based in India, and that's where the rumours start. But when Tagore initially composed the National Anthem, he didn't write it in reverence to anyone living then.

Coming back to the song 'Mere Desh Ki Dharti', although a good song, I feel it speaks only of India's material resources and focuses on an agricultural economy, thus coming off as a tad Socialist. India is a lot more than Gold, Silver, or a few freedom fighters such as Gandhi, S.C.Bose, Nehru, etc. This song doesn't capture India's cultural history in all its entirety and there is less focus on Unity in Diversity.

I think our current National Anthem is just fine.
