Well I used to listen to Rafi sahib this song. When I listened to this song
by Lata with attention I am totally struck!! I thought what Rafi sahib sung
could no one sung. But Lata ji is Lata. Perfect is a small work, she is
unsurpassable in the history of Gayeki. This is how history is made!

People often wrongly compare the same song sung by Rafi and Lata like this one, or Ahsaan tera...What we need to understand is that these songs were originally made for the MALE actor in the movie and hence the female is asked to sing it very plainly because she is just repeating it...So if Lata copy's Rafi's style that will sound ridiculous like a female singing in male style. Similarly Rafi cannot sing Rasik Balma or Sharma aati hai magar made for Lata and copy her style.

Also, Lata and Rafi both being the BEST, I am sure they can easily copy each other and sing EXACTLY alike but that will be more of a mimicry and will not suit the movie scene. Male singing has slight machoism (Rafi's style of singing) whereas Lata's has a female's delicacy, shyness etc, which is required for a female.

So, just because I have an opinion I get two thumbs down? All I said was
that for whatever reason, I like Rafi's version better. How that statement
translates to "Rafi was better than Lata" or that I am a male chauvinist, I
do no know. I never compared them both...all I said was that I, for my
listening, prefer Rafi's version of this song. Sigh...talk about being
tolerant and letting people have opinions.

a restaurant/tea house. The radio or gramophone record, some times, played
this song, usually in Lata version. I got so much absored in it that I
begged others "not even to sigh" during this song. One of our somewhat
elderly friends often got iritated. Not because I requested the group to be
silent, but because he lamented that my taste for music was appaling,

When I look back, I tend to think that it was the beginning of the period
when great poets were just beginning to use the words "Meri Mehboob", or
"Meray Mehboob". Examples : Faiz Ahmed Faiz wrote :"Mujh sey pehli si

though that makes me a "boring" fellow among my friends, who cares. My
point was, I made no comparison between Lata and Rafi. Two different
singers each with their own skills. All I said was, I prefer the male
version of this song...as it expresses my feelings better for me.

I m 28 n hv been listening to Lata n Rafi since i was a kid , i can say i
hv grown up listening to both of them n almost know all of their songs. i
love them both for their wonderful n unique treasure of songs that they
have given. BUT now this comparison between both of them luks quite silly

and Lata sing the same song - Aji Rooth Kar Ab Kahan - Lata's was far
better. In terms of longevity, Lata outlasted Rafi. Lata is the better
singer because she had more range - Rafi's voice doesn't go up very high.
But I agree that both are great, and we can be fans of both singers

rafi's version of this song has far more depth, emotions, he sings the
words like he really means each word , giving every word a totally broad
perspective. lata is a great singer but just does not match the version by
rafi. anyways the version sung by rafi is the one which gained acclaim and
unless you saw the movie one is not even aware the lata sang the same song
