Well, the song by Lata ji is in a sad mood and sung at half note higher
with a faster tempo. The same song by Rafi ji is romantic, at a slower
tempo and sung at half note lower. So you are comparing apples to oranges.

accually there is no difference in the song same tempo and you are wrong
the version sung by rafi is at higher note, the tempo is the same ,the only
difference is in the singers version. the lyrics of the song were witten by
hasrat jaipuri and are actually inspired from the ghazal written by momin
khan momin , for which mirza ghalib is knowned to have said '' take my
entire diwan in exchange for this one ghazal. the ghazal by momin was ''
tum mere paas hote ho GOYA : JAB koi doosra nahi hota

hasrat jaipuri wrote the lyrics inspired by this very ghazal. omiting the
words GOYA and JAB from momins original verse. the remaining verses are all
completely based on sufi style of poetry. and there in lies the difference
. rafi was used to singing qawwalis, naats, and sufi kalaam which requires
higher notes than the normal song, and that is why one can clearly note the
difference in both versions. the ghazal's sufi touch is easily detected in
rafi's version

Love both versions equally ... Although I find more "baarikiyaan",
variations and precision in Lata bai's version from a singer's perspective.
