These kind of traditions to kill the girl (supposed source of expenses) and
getting a boy (a money making machine) is itself steeped in other
regressive practices of our patriarchal society. In this society a boy is
desirable because he gets money (dowry, his income) and girls have to be
wed off (gifted dowry). Once married she is of no use to her parents
according to this system. Girls are born in every family, so the greedy
ones think of killing her.
