What a song.old songs were sooo sooothing...old is indeed gold.
bi11iards on January 27, 2010
Light classical songs such as this were no less artful and soothing as more rigorous classical form of music; nor it required any less effort or talent to create and deliver. With this number, Lata and the other creators of this song, take the music to another new level..notice the elaborate alap in the begining; very unique and refreshing, even after so many decades!!

Light but CLASSIC indeed.

Beautiful song by Shailendra. Music by the maestro S D Burman. Lataji - you are a perfectionist - there simply will not be another Lata.
aamititun on March 28, 2010
to call lata divine is an understatement...her voice and singing abilities are definitely beyond the (normal) human standards

What a Voice, What a song, What a poetry. All at one. " Jaise sari kaynat simat kar aa gai ho"

One of the most haunting tunes from the genius that was S.D.Burman and rendered so heartbreakingly by Lata. This song along with "Laag Ja Gale", once listened to , will linger in your memory for ever.

One of the greatest sad songs ever...
sloppyviewer on July 26, 2011
roughly Translates to:

My dream left me in tears,
My dream left me in tears,
I am waiting for the dawn
My dream left me in tears,
My dream left me in tears,
He is the reason for pain,
He is also my moon and sun
He is
He is the rest of the night and everything
Yet he is not here

What life is this
That I am drowning in my own breath
My heart sinks

.you know it is very hard to do a poetic translation from one language to another, I don't feel I am doing justice to it...
nnamasay on July 27, 2011
@sloppyviewer Marvelous ! it's perfect translation. thanks.

S.D.Burman should have won the best music director award in the FILMFARE AWARDS for composing the mmusic of this film..but he didn't...also same did happen when he didn't get award for the music for guide and aradahana..filmfare awards have been and still are very much biased depriving the actual winners

I agree about Barmanda not getting the awards but we all music lovers know Barmanda is the GREATEST music composer ever lived. We miss him a lot but we live his life and his passion for music amongst ourselves. Namaste Barmanda.

The genius of S.D.Burman has been vividly shown in this most heart wrenching composition and sung so passionately by India's melody queen Lata. Also the versatility of SD's talent can be judged by the totally different type of song in " Raat Akeli Hai" which has a kind of frisky, catchy tune from the same film "Jewel Thief"
