Thank you so much Suhanee for posting my request. Simply beauty, Vijyanti
Mala is exceptional as a village girl in this movie, she deals efficiently
with human relationship and love. Great movie, it's a story of two young
lovers denied by death but not by fate. And the Music is so enchanting and
melodious I love all the songs of Madhumati. Thanks again and God bless you
my dear.

One of the best folk dances and songs ever to come out of Bombay cinema. No
folk dance and song combination since 1958 has been able to convey such
melodic sweetness and project such beautiful choreography. The addition of
little girls joining in at the end lends additional charm to the scene.
nickkohri on November 20, 2008
I agree 100% with your perceptive observation.
V. Siddhartha on November 20, 2008
Thank you, my friend. I can never get enough of this clip. It represents
the best of the best of traditional folk culture of India. One almost feels
as if Lata's voice and the dance by Vyjayantimala and her troupe including
the little girls are flowers that are sprouting out of the beautiful soil
of rural India. Compliments should also go to MD Salil Choudhary who, along
with S.D. Burman, was a master of the art of composing such sublime
pastoral music.
nickkohri on November 20, 2008
Especially the line "baatoo baaton mein rog bhada jaaye" together with the shehnai counter-point is totally out-of-this world. The song "daiyya re daiyya ik kanhaiyya" from Saranga comes quite close to this pastoral folk music gem. The other is the "sainyya jhooto ka bara sartaaj nikla" from 2 Ankhen 12 Haath.

Thanks for the tips. I shall look for those two songs again, long consigned
to a hazier corner of my memory.

The magic has been created by Shailender, Salil choudhary & Vimal da,
executed by Vaijanti ji & choreographer of the song. Pure folk of hills,
what a use of flute, see the beauty that even villagers appear an integral
part of the song making the impact so intense and soothing too. Great, hats
off to those wonderful magicians of Indian Cinema

Everytime I hear this song I am amazed by how beautiful it is, Lata mangeshkar is just sooo melodious. The music is awesome.
Will we ever have music like this in our films? Or is it all lost and gone forever only to be appreciated by a handful of people like us?????

the song and the scene from an old black & white classic hindi movie is soothing to hear and watch; the two little girls in the video seem like natural talents and extremely graceful dancers for their young age; i wonder who those kids are?

This song gives me gooseflesh every time I see or hear it. Lata Mangeshkar at her magical best and of course, this song was one among the many gems in Madhumati - Salil Cowdhary's masterpiece. Apart from the quality of music, the choreography in this song was also brilliant. See the shot from top, with pirouetting dancers, towards the end. Madhumati was worth watching just for Vyjayanthimala's dancing. She was easily the best dancer among Bollywood heroines. Thanks for uploading this great song.
