What a sense of composition! The circle of the handmill, the simple mud
wall, the strip of light near the women sitting alone. Stunning.

This film was excellent. thank u sooo much for putting up old DECENT and
MELODIOUS songs, jaise aaj kal nahi hote.

After all its one of the greatest masterpiece in Hindi cimema by the legend
himself:Bimal Roy...the team work was exemplary--his direction, Burman
Dada's music, Gulzaar Saab's composition & Asha Tai's voice!
rc0972 on August 19, 2006
Agreed with everything except that the 'composition' or rather lyrics
aren't by Gulzar but by Shailendra. Summoning heart-wrenching profoundity
through simple words was Shailendra's mastery and it is more than apparent
here. To sample 'Bairan jawani ne chheene khilone aur meri gudiya
churayi'.. a lament for a lost carefree childhood. Dada Burman's simple,
spontaneous and emotionally rich tunes form the perfect vehicle for
Shailendra's lyrics.
g33t on August 19, 2006
You are right about this song being penned by Shailendra saab,I was
generalizing the situation as Gulzaar Saab was the second lyricist for this
movie (Jogi jab se tu aayaa mere dware etc)...I guess I missed Shailendra
saab, sorry about that. Shailendra saab was more of a poet, sample his fare
in Teesri Kasam...kinda in the line of Gurudutt saab, who alongwith
Haribhai (Sanjeev Kumar saab), Moti Lal ji & Dada Moni was, IMO, among the
gr8st actors of Hindi cinema.

I'm posting a rough translation for those who don't know hindi. Excuse me
for not sticking to the dictionary for the sake of rhyme of rhythm Send
brother o'er, father this year to get me home in the showers, when my
childhood friends too shall return get me for a reunion of ours.
Ektajiv on October 28, 2007
Yet again from the mango tree the swing shall hang in the rains to our home
shall come a breezy glee wet the porch and panes my heart bleeds and I shed
tears with memories of the childhood years.
Ektajiv on October 28, 2007
This wretched youth robbed my toys- my toys and my doll, With all your
love, father, why,why am I forgotten at all? For ages I've been longing to
hear and seeing someone dear
Ektajiv on October 28, 2007
Oops! The translation got posted the other way round! Para 3 appears first,
followed by para two and one.

sachindev could make one cry. An inharently happy pilu raga is used to
describe exactly opposite emotions. India used to be a country of geniuses.

whether asha had tears in her eyes while singing these lines, I don't know,
but whenever i listen to them, I definitely have them in torrents! Hats off
to great SD and Asha. a truly wonderful composition rendered equally
marvellously. Million thanks for uploading.

Movie: BANDINI by Bimal Daa Roy. Very touchy song. I always try to control
tears, and I don't know why it brings tears. I have no words to explain
what chord it touches. But if you have the similar experience, please give
me some words to express my feelings.
om brahma on March 06, 2008
Very good attempt to convey the core message. just beautiful. I know how
difficult it is. I tried on two different songs. One is Aakhri Dao
(humsafar saath apna.)
malangi13 on March 07, 2008
You feel sad becasue it takes you down some memory lane where your consience and unconscience have stored deep emotions for your blood relations sister-father-mother etc. Everyone has those feelings. So you are in good company. Good luck.
neelima25 on March 10, 2008
om, I am 50 years old and I still cry every time I hear this song...it is true to the bpne and thats why it touches ones soul...I miss my home..in India
om brahma on March 10, 2008
You have a point. 20 girls in the family I grew up with went to sasural,
and there was crying all the time. May that is chord or some of so many
"bichhade sabhee baree baree" type experience.
V. Siddhartha on March 16, 2008
Is there any doubt at all about the genious that Asha ji is? Her usual
songs are in the "upbeat" genre, but here she plumbs the depths of the
human heart with a penetrating, tear-soaked voice that fully matches her
sister Lataji's skill at doing the same. What sweetness mixed with what
sadness!
V. Siddhartha on March 17, 2008
Excellent rhymed translation, Ektajiv, of this moving lyric. I agree with
all those who said it is difficult to restrain tears when listening to this
song ,for it resonates with many human experiences and memories . The
words, the music and the voice all blend seamlessly to stir one's heart and
soul. The trio involved in the number shine together. Thank you, Bellztoll,
for sharing the clip.

Shreya Ghoshal sang this on chote ustads (star voice of India) she sang it
so beautifully that she sang herself to tears... ask me for the video I
have it. It's not on youtube but it's a MUST HEAR! It hits all the
emotional chords this original one does.
maguru006 on May 10, 2008
can someone please tell which movie this is from and if someone has the movie, that wud be great
V. Siddhartha on May 15, 2008
Dear Sidya1: Could you possibly post that video clip of Shreya Ghishal on
YouTube, so many of us can see Shreya's talent once again? I know that she
is capable of being the equal of anyone. Thanks in advance.
