specdel on May 07, 2008
I think they were called Sai and Subbulaxmi,
the only other film I have seen them in is Chori Chori (starring Nargis and Raj Kapoor).

biswagourav on May 13, 2008
These two great dancers are known as the "Travancore Sisters"
biswagourav on May 13, 2008
These are two of Padmini, Lalitha and Ragini, the three great ""Travancore Sisters".
ringarose85 on June 05, 2008
No they weren known as the Subbulakshmi sisters. Not the travancore sisters. The tranvancore sisters were Lalita, Padmini and Ragini and these dancers are the Subbulakshmi sisters. they are were very good in their time.

Thanks SO much for identifying who these wonderful dancers are!
vjzoo on August 26, 2008
How does remixing them stop them being 'saved for the next generation?' Surely it keeps awareness up and introduces more people to the treasures that can then be looked up also in their original form.
ikylejm on September 05, 2008
these songs are saved because of the influence they have left on the music of today
Jannat4 on October 31, 2008

anusrinivasan on February 07, 2009
No, this is NOT M.S Subbulakshmi, the famous Carnatic Singer who was awarded the Bharat Ratna. MSS (the singer) was not an established dancer and, after a brief movie career in the 1940s, concentrated on Carnatic singing.

The dancers in this song are indeed called the Subbulakshmi sisters and had nothing to do with MS the singer! Please do not confuse the two!

how sweet and naddan back then those girls and their expressions were...no nudity just pure beauty...
vinayfound on March 31, 2009
Outstanding ! Such energy and grace in both, the music and the dance. This movie had lovely music by chitalkar. Incidentally, this is a South Indian production - by Pakshiraja Studio of Coimbatore. Thank God ARRahman had not been born till then, to spoil the movie with his convoluted and intellectually deficient cacophonies punctuated with sudden howls.
San1One on April 05, 2009
This is extraordinary to say the least! I am in awe of how amazing that dance was! Absolutely brilliant!
uttung80 on April 13, 2009
I learnt about this song and dance from my parents who loved it very much. I also watch it quite often. I really would like to know more about them. I understand that they were called something like "Velankani sister?" Any idea?
newruparel on April 17, 2009

Does any one Know a Tamil song, which goes " Kaalam ithu Kaalam ithu ne tungu magale", an old song, anything regarding it would be helpful or Kannada song "Kaala vidu kaala vidu ne malagu magale", where I can find it.
reva12 on May 20, 2009
Here is information on the Tamil song that you asked about:

Song Title: Kaalam Idhu Kaalam Idhu, Kannurangu Magaley

Film: Chiththi
Singer: P. Susheela
Music: Viswanathan-Ramamurthy
Lyrics: Kannadasan

By the way, the dancers in this clip are Sai & Subbulakshmi, sisters. They have done quite a few bharata natyam numbers in Tamil movies, back in the late 50s and early 60s.
