ARR is at least trying to re invent Tagore... pl. try to understand and
appreciate his effort.How many modern Bengalis can sing a Tagore song in
full or recite a complete poem ? Don't try to insulate Tagore , he is a
national asset...not Bengal's property.

Some people are complaining that this is not the way to sing "Rabindra
Sangeet". These verses are from a poem so technically it cannot be called a
Rabindra sangeet. If in doubt, please pick up a copy of gitabitan and see
for yourself. There are no musical notations for a poem and hence there is
no "correct way" to sing it.Regarding the pronunciation, yes there are
minor flaws but they in no way impact the beauty of the song. If you want
to criticize, at least get your facts right.

I feel really ashamed of fellow Bengalis who are abusing this page by
criticizing Rahman's diction, pronunciation, etc. and his supposed
blasphemy of touching the respectably untouchable Tagore. We have deified
Tagore such that if someone tries to re-invent Him, people will criticize.
Tagore always dreamt of a great unified India & look at his successors who
complain abt mispronunciation of his poem which talks about breaking down
boundaries of countries. What an irony! Jagao mere desh, alas...

even though a bengali wouldnt give a green flag to A.R. Rehman for his
pronunciation, i'd definitely give him a hug for the grounded approach to
this song, it is the sentiment that matters, not the clarity of words! all

Being a hardcore bengali, i welcome this move by Sir Rahman openly.
Rabindranath Tagore is not a personality to be confined within only a
certain language and a few able to speak in that very language. Very nice
experiment at all. And India in 2013 is not a perfect place for stubborn

It is a creation, not an alteration of creation. There should not be any
negative criticism since a well paid respect is given by not altering
Tagore's any song. Tagore's writing has brought different meaning to
different people. Sometimes original sense is lost cause that writing
stirred many hearts with different sense. This poem can be feasible with
this theme. A musician adds music to words, not altering old tune with new
flavors. Much appreciated. Waiting for more. Cheers.

Tagore words were not being rapped. It is used as prelude. I am strongly
against of alteration of Tagore's creation but adding something new can be
appreciated.

This is a great rendition. Not everything old be kept untouched, not every
attempt of modernization petty. This is a wonderful contemporary
adaptation. Should shoulder and appreciate ppl like Rahman for this, while
all that Bollywood is churning out in the name of music today is complete
