Agree. Lovely song and lovely film, though I am sure it isn't base guitar because AR Rehman used only Indian musical instruments in JA to make it more authentic for that time.
It must be some kind of Oboe, which has its origins in the east - India, China etc

I found it - it is called Sema, the popular name is Whirling Dervish. It was founded by Mevlana Rumi in the 13th century. This dance is still famous in Turkey.
