How sweet is the dard in CHA's voice with just soft support from the Sitar
and Tabla! And as usual, your montage of images makes the experience of
listening even more enjoyable.This geet has been a favorite of mine-- and

Wow! What a sweet surprise to find this song I've cherished since my
childhood that my dear late father used to love! He gave me my sense of
deep appreciation for songs like this rare Gem among other vintage songs.
There was a fresh sense of innocence & depth in these old songs - be it in
a cheerful romantic song or a nostalgic sad song like this, with a soul

Nice song. Credit to O P Nayyar who wrote this song and induced him(CHA a
collegemate of Nayyar) to sing before HMV and believe me the singer made a
good wealth. Nayyar by then composed it for Mr & Mrs 55 in which Geeta Dutt
sang and it also became a hit. Thanks for the upload.

by O P Nayyar. It is written by Shrimati Saroj Mohini Nayyar, the wife late
Shri O P Nayyar. So the credit should rightfully go to her.

His name was Chandru Atma. Anyway what's in the name - he sang very soulful
like saigalsahab. Lovely voice.

yes very true. But Atma is a last name, nobody adopted a last name, only
the first names as you mentioned. Like Madhubala and Dilipkumar are both
screen names only without any last name attache to them. CH Atma did not
take a fake name, his brother Atma is also a singer and sings Saigal/CH
Atma songs.

C.H. Atma's full name was also, as i know, Chandra Haas Atma. Both the
brothers had similiar names and almost similiar voices ! Chandu Atma has
also recorded some beautiful Saigal songs in his voice, and in some songs
he sounds better than the original, to me, may be because of some added
instruments and better recording equippments.

yes sir, to me , i said, and that too because of some added instruments and
better recording equippments. Chandru also has an excellent voice quality.
please try listening to it. By the way Saigal"s original songs were also
re-recorded in his own voice and with some added insrtuments etc.which
sounded better than the original, to me again.this is not to demean the
great singer in any way, though.

The lady is Suraiya and not Nimmi. Another great singer from yester years.

This was the first record my father got along with the HMV gramphone my
father got in lottrey draw in the bridge game he played in the club and
won..The prize was given by draw of lots...those days the gramphone records
were not readily available in the market and recordings on metal coated
with plastic had grooves.I remember the stylus would get stuck while and
song lines would be repeated until the stylus was moved.Nonethless we
enjoyed the best music available in those times
