Comments on song "Ye Kuche Ye Nilaam Ghar Dilkashi Ke"
Sujeet Modak on April 08, 2009 what a composition and rafi's voice
JammerHead1980 on May 09, 2009 Many thanks for uploading this simply wonderful and one of my faves. So
little accompanying music - nobody can sing like the great Rafi! Although
Hemant Kumar did a great job with "Jaane woh kaise log" in Pyaasa, I would
love just hear Rafi sing that song. Anyone with some concert/private
recording of that?
sunilkashikar on June 03, 2009 Minimalism in music at its best. Touching voice of Rafi, minimal music by Burman Da.what a magical experience.
Simply stunning!!!!
myyou321 on July 25, 2009 Mindyou please dont only remember RAFI SB the GREAT. but due respect, please remember the great LYRICIST OF ALL TIME SAHIR LUDHIANVI urf Abdul Haye... Great voice with some breathing lyrics by the Genius..

describe.
chishtysundar on October 11, 2009 Superb effort of that time, still enough to provoke an esteem for the social work needed to the women of Sub-Continent.
flyingmachine87 on October 24, 2009 he was wayyyyyy ahead of his time. drank himself to death. great film maker.

sonny19xx on January 08, 2010 That is the land of the Mahatma. The fight against the British rule got
over but this war has not been won. The war against human lust and the
power of wealth which has bought human souls and subjected humanity to
utter misery. Until the time even a single women or a child is subjected to
such indignity, humanity has failed. A powerful portrayal by Guru Dutt .
This movie attains cult status by the sheer strength of this song. Sahir -
SD and Rafi work magic. THANKS brahmptewatia
iplvirk on January 09, 2010 they dont make this kind of songs anymore. too bad
AbdulRahman Aftab on January 25, 2010 legend M rafi
himanv on February 05, 2010 Happy 60th Republic Day, India. This song makes me sad. There's some
progress in 60 years, but not nearly enough.
mcuriousyellow on February 20, 2010 Truly - and the best film maker this country has produced...GURU DUTT , a sensitive soul and a true artiste did not find reciprocation ! His unrequited situation was the reason , it was believed , for his early demise ! His song situations say it all ! These situations and content are the expressions of the director and the creator of the story line ! Had he lived we surely would have seen many legendary masterpieces from him ! LONG LIVE GURU - GURU DATT !
Saurabh Pathak on March 08, 2010 I salute to dutt sahab nd the all persons who like this type of songs nd

wrote this beautiful nazm
Kalyan Chakravarthy Rachakonda on May 03, 2010 what is reallyt unfortunate is this is relevant even today.after so many
decades.kahan hai...kahan hai...jinhe naaz hai hind pe???
virendra kaul on May 11, 2010 Such rare compositions come forth once in a while. It takes a SAHIR to
bring out these pearls from the sea bed, a Sachindev Burman to compose
music, that golden voice of Rafi and the rebel producer like Gurudutt to
bring out such wonderful piece that shook us all who are proud of HIND
RealMusicKing on May 22, 2010 This was from Sahir's poem "Chakley". Some words were changed due to public pressure but still, a true description of what goes on in poor countries. It's very shameful.
amlikotbakhtuda on June 08, 2010 very nice NAZAM by sahir ludhianvi & nice music . sahir told truth of KOTHA

whycantawoman on October 03, 2010 @kishorekrao Brother, do not drag religion into this. Do not insult the
spirit of the song by doing so please. They were great people who
transcended the trifling obstacles raised by the so-called followers of
religion and churned out such divine melodies with a message for each one
of us. We were all made to be one. In unity we have the power and humility
that culminates into great achievements such as this one and others. I
would like to mention " man tarpat hari darshan' and ' bhagwan'
sonny19xx on October 15, 2010 Very moving ! The unfortunate fact is that every frame of this song is
steeped in truth. Many poets get inspired and such brutal realities are the
food and fodder for their poems. What a telling judgement on the ineptitude
of the governments and a scathing attack on the societie that breed such
evils. Another movie that handled a similar theme - though in an entirely
different angle - was the hollywood classic " Taxi Driver ", the former
movie predated the latter by nearly two decades.
sonny19xx on October 15, 2010 Continuing my earlier post , the protagonist of this movie is a poet and
the other ( taxi driver ) is an ex-soldier. there cannot be any difference
that can be more striking. And predictably the soldier takes the law into
his hands and goes temporarily berserk. Whereas this movie the poet is
grieved and as a consequence starts brooding intensely. A great classic by
SD and Rafi . Last but not least the poet - Sahir . Gurudutt is perfect as
the brooding poet. Thanks Brahmptewatia
orientlover1 on October 25, 2010 Continuing meanings of Urdu/Persian vocabulary, here are some more: purpech ( literally full of turns - winding) ismat (modesty, chastity), takraar ( repetition, argument), zard (yellow, pale) manzar (scene)

Taharah Carvajal on October 25, 2010 @sonny19xx You are so very right!!!!
Jamie Kaur on November 09, 2010 Guru Dutt wrote the same story under the title "The Thirsty man" in
Illustrated weekly Of India many years before making the movie. I never
read the original story. I think the poetry of Sahir ludhianvi made this
movie very appealing. Did anyone read the original story written by Guru
Dutt? Or can anyone help me to get that story?
Taharah Carvajal on November 11, 2010 @halkiphulkiben May I trouble you for the words in English...I saw this
movie on TMC (Turner Movie Classics) and fell in love with the music and
the man.what is is saying???
orientlover1 on November 12, 2010 @Taharah007 The poem is entitled "Chakle" meaning Brothels. Had been published in Sahir Ludhianvi's book Talkhian (Bitternesses). Some words/lines were changed for simplicity and film requirements. Two stanzas were completely omitted. The poet laments the plights of women pushed into the sordid business of prostitution and chides the leaders for their passive attitude towards this great human tragedy. Exact translation of this unique work into English will require considerable skill.
orientlover1 on November 12, 2010 These two stanzas were omitted in this song from the original poem: After "be-ruuh kamron main khansi ki than than":
Yeh goonje hue qahqahe raston par; Yeh chaaron taraf bheed si khidkion par; Yeh aawaze khinchte hue aanchlon par; Sana-khwan-e-taqdis-e-mashriq kahan hain.
After " Yeh dhalke badan aur yeh beemar chehre":
Yeh bhooki nigahain hasinon ki jaanib; Yeh badhte hue haath seenon ki jaanib; Lapakte hue paaon zeenon ki jaanib; Sana-khwan-e-taqdis-e-mashriq kahan hain.
Taharah Carvajal on November 14, 2010 @orientlover1 I had a feeling that this was the tragic subject the song so
sadly brys...and this actor uses his heart felt sorrow in relaying this
message. It is a song that continues to possess meaning to this very day,
unfortunately...with human trafficking on the raise to satisfy the greedy
evil lust of WESTERN IMPERIALISTS. Thank you so much for your worthy
explanation. Many blessings to you! ~ Taharah (Voice crying in the desert)
orientlover1 on November 15, 2010 Title "Chakle" (Brothels) originally published in Sahir's book Talkhian.
Stanza 1/8:
These streets, these auction houses of objects of attraction;
This plunder of generations of life;
Where are the self-proclaimed guardians of self-pride;
Where are the champions of national pride.
Stanza 2/8:
These winding alleys, these bazars of infamy;
These unknown passersby, the jingling of coins;
These bargains over chastity, argument over deals;
Where the champions of national pride.
orientlover1 on November 15, 2010 Stanza 5/8:
These bracelets of flowers, splashes of spittle;
These unabashed stares, these vulgar comments;
These waned bodies, these sick faces;
Where are the champions of national pride.
Stanza 6/8
Have come here old men and young ones too;
Sturdy sons and respectable father too;
This is a wife and a sister and a mother too;
Where are the champions of national pride.
orientlover1 on November 15, 2010 Stanza 7/8:
Daughter of Eve is in need of help;
The like of Yashodha, daughter of Radha;
The follower of the Prophet, daughter of Zulaikha*
Where are the champions of national pride.
(* a female Bibalical character, wife of an Egyptian nobleman, who tried to seduce Joseph)
Stanza 8/8:
Just call the leaders of the country;
Make them see these alleys, streets and these scenes;
Bring those champions of national pride;
Where are the champions of national pride.
( posted from Lahore)
orientlover1 on November 15, 2010 @Taharah007 pls. see the English translation of complete song. Of the ten stanzas two stanzas (one each after stanza 4 and 6) from the original poem were omitted in the film version. Some lines/words were altered for the sake simplification of language and to keep length of song within a reasonable limit.
orientlover1 on November 15, 2010 Stanza 3/8:
These centuries old sleepless, scared alleyways;
These quashed, half-blossomed, pale buds;
This sale of momentary merry-making;
Where are the champions of national pride.
Stanza 4/8:
These lighted windows, clinking of dancer's anklets;
Beats of tabla on weary breathing;
Spurts of cough in lifeless rooms;
Where are the champions of national pride.

Nusrat5791 on February 12, 2011 can it really be that the culture which produced such poetry, such acting,
such movies can also make abominations like, "dance pe chance" and reward
arrogant people like, shahrukh khan and amitabh bachan. hard to believe, no?
Nusrat5791 on February 12, 2011 @Taharah007 it's not just western imperialists, we, too, are equally
avaricious as the next human. look within before casting aspersions.
