Asha should have just left this one alone! Disappointing, to say the least. She exposes her limitations. Even though she is recognized for "expression" in her voice, her rendition sounds totally flat compared to the legendary Farida Khanum. Asha is great but she should realize that some classics are even beyond her reach! This is similar to Lata trying Noor Jahan's "hum bhool gayay har baat". That was tragically disappointing as well. Better than this though.

Asha is a great singer no doubt about that but this ghazal is a classic in its own right and only ghazal singers such as Farida Khanum can carry it well...some things are better when original!

i like asha's version. the bollywood beats in the back just spoil it though.

However Farida Khanum sang it amazingly, and i dont think asha came even close.

anyone calling the beats in the background as "bollywood beats" knows
nothing about how different this music is. in fact, the beats in the
background are what makes this song so unique. of course, as far as the
question of who sang it better goes, i have no problem if people like the
farida khanum version better. but please, this is not "bollywood" or
"indian pop" in any way.

No disrespect to Asha ji, she is very sweet but i feel serene when i hear
Farida Khanum saheba for this song. She makes me fall in love again with
life, with love. She is sooo pleasing to convince any soul in the song.

Asha has sung this ghazal well but the backing group sticks like a sore

I agree Asha maam Rocks and the sond is sang in a different form. The backdrop is touchy and brings about the emotions in the song.
